YOUTH AIRCRAFT BUILD PROGRAM

The Youth Aircraft Build Program is a youth initiative supported by EAA Chapter 663, based out of Livermore Airport, California. Our aim is to create an inclusive future for aviation and make it more accessible by providing youth with an aircraft build/restoration experience and support their interests in aviation.   We have teamed up with experienced mentors, pilots and aircraft technicians to create a hands-on program that allows students (ages 12 - 17) to acquire the technical knowledge to build, maintain and fly an aircraft. The skills students develop in our program reach beyond the realm of aviation and can be carried with them for the rest of their lives. Students will learn about engineering, problem solving, critical thinking, safety standards, project management, collaboration, design and more.

The program program is made up of two kit aircraft.  The first is a Cri Cri airplane.  It is considered the smallest single seat, aerobatic, multiengine airplane in the world.  It is a materials only kit requiring significant blueprint interpretation, parts manufacturing and metal/composite construction.  Our older students enjoy the engineering challenges it offers.  They have designed the aircraft to fly on four electric motors with full battery operational control.

Our second kit plane is the Sling 2.  All aluminum airframe, two seat, single engine sport aircraft.  It is considered an “advanced” kit with all structural parts provided, having been manufactured by state-of-the-art CNC machinery.  This aircraft, when built, will provide excellent training opportunities for our youth as well as a very efficient cross-country airplane.

Any students interested in joining our Sling 2 build project please contact us at [email protected]
