We now have a Discord server for messaging other chapter members!
Why did we do this?
We didn't really have a great way for members to casually communicate amongst each other. Discord is a free tool that solves this for us.
What is Discord?
Discord is a popular free app for community based text, video, and voice messaging. You can read more about it directly from Discord, but if you've used Slack, Teams, or Google Chat, it's the same kind of app. Even if you haven't used those, it's still pretty intuitive. You can use Discord on your computer or on the mobile app.
Do I have to use Discord?
Nope. It's optional and doesn't change anything with how the chapter works other than giving us a way to chat with each other. The community will be a richer place if you're there, but it is optional. We will still continue to publish our newsletter and disseminate chapter news through Constant Contact.
Are there any privacy concerns?
Privacy concerns are similar to other social platforms. Think of this server like a private Facebook group.
Yes, We've chosen to not enable some features like voice and video chat at the moment, purely for simplicity. We can explore those after we get it off the ground.
We need more specialized channels, like... #lady-cherokee235-owners or
We started with just a few channels intentionally. Once we see how much traffic certain topics are, we can easily tailor it to our needs.
Who are the moderators? I'm already mad at them.
Thank you for volunteering to be a moderator/administrator. ;-) Thank you to Richard Smith for spearheading this and dragging us into the 21st century. Ideally we would like a few moderators so if you are interested, tell us on Discord.

- What you post is visible to the company (Discord). Read their policies to see how any information you provide on the service might be used.
- Anything you post is visible to our entire community.
- We choose who has access. And we will do our best to keep the Discord members in sync with actual chapter membership, but this is an infrequent and imperfect manual synchronization.
- In short... it's community chat, it is not private or secure messaging.
